Ideal Spots for that One Last Break

It’s been a hot summer…and for too many of us, a really busy summer. It hardly seems possible that Labor Day is just a couple of weeks away. There’s still time, though, while the weather is nice, to get away for one last breather before school, football and fall hit. Here are some of the places to consider in and around Texas:

A last trip to the beach—Wherever you decide to go, you’ll want to be near water. You’ll find plenty of Gulf Coast where you can take a dip in the refreshing waters. If it’s a little peace and quiet you’re hoping for, consider Matagorda Bay, Galveston Island, Boca Chica, or the Padre Island National Seashore.
Enjoy a cool spring-fed river—No salt and cool, clear, spring-fed waters. One of the most beautiful places to enjoy that—the Frio River near Concan, Texas. Other options include the Guadalupe, in the heart of Texas Hill Country, or the Comal Springs in New Braunfels.
Take it easy along the San Antonio Riverwalk—You’ll find lots of ways to stay cool here, even though it’s in South Texas. Enjoy local fare and a cool, refreshing beverage at one of the many cantinas and watering holes along the Riverwalk. Visit the San Antonio Museum of Art, the Texas Ranger Museum or a Riverwalk Cruise.
