The Common Symptoms of Whiplash
When you’ve been in a car crash, even if the impact was at a relatively low speed, you may suffer headaches or neck pain in the hours, days and weeks after the collision. In many instances, those are symptoms of whiplash, one of the most common injuries suffered in motor vehicle accidents. Then professionals at Accident Centers of Texas can help restore you to maximum health.
What Is Whiplash?
Whiplash injuries occur when your head or neck snaps violently back and forth, typically the result of sudden and unexpected physical impact. In a car accident, when the vehicle in which you are traveling collides with another car or with a stationary object, the car stops, but your head usually doesn’t. In fact, it will usually snap forward and then rebound backward.
Though your head and neck may not make impact with the dashboard, windshield or other part of the car, your brain will move inside your skull, bouncing off the hard bone. That typically causes bruising and may even result in bleeding in your brain. As a result of the bruising, you may experience inflammation or swelling in your brain, a serious medical condition.
In addition, the muscles, ligaments and tendons that attach to your neck can be strained or torn, causing you to experience significant pain or soreness, loss of range of motion in your neck, and swelling.
