Wear Pink in October to Help Foster Awareness of Breast Cancer
October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time when nations around the globe focus on increasing public knowledge and awareness of methods for, and benefits of, early detection, as well as treatment and palliative care options. A wide array of events are held each year to raise both awareness and funds for further research into the causes, diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and cure of breast cancer. The primary objective of Breast Cancer Awareness Month is to increase access to, and use of, mammography as a tool to diagnose and treat breast cancer.
The fight against breast cancer has long been represented visually by the color pink. The Breast Cancer Research Foundation uses a pink ribbon as its symbol, and similar ribbons have been a part of the movement since the Susan G. Komen Foundation handed out pink ribbons to participants in a road race for breast cancer survivors in 1991.
A number of activities are planned for this year’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month in the DFW Metroplex:
- Sweet Happy Hour on Tuesday, October 13, at Venture X Frisco-Stonebrook
- The Cancer Awareness Pink Party 2020, Saturday, October 17, at 2999 Turtle Creek Blvd in Dallas
- Raising the Barre for Breast Cancer Awareness, Saturday, October 24, at Colleyville City Park
- More Than Mimosas Presents My Sister’s Keeper, Saturday, October 31, at 211 N. Envay Street in Dallas
