Rolling Out the Old Year and Rolling In a New One
It’s almost time to sing Auld Lang Syne, as we say goodbye to 2022 and look forward to 2023. It’s the perfect time to focus on your health, to be intentional about taking steps to increased wellness. Accidental injuries are the leading cause of disability and death across the United States. Studies show, however, that most of those injuries are avoidable. There are steps you can take to reduce your risk of injury.
Ways that You Can Avoid Injury in 2023
Whether it’s an accident in the home, at work or on the roadways, there are things you can do to prevent injury:
- At home—The most common cause of injury in the home is falls. Make certain you have corrective eyewear, if necessary, and minimize hazards around the house. Check for loose carpet, broken tile or faulty stair rails. It also helps to build your core strength, so that you have better balance and stability.
- At work—Most workplace accidents result from inattentiveness. Know where the potential hazards are on your job. Don’t let fatigue creep in and cause you to lose focus—take regular breaks to stay sharp. Never cut corners on a work procedure—that’s how people often get hurt.
- On the road—Nearly a third of all motor vehicle accidents involve the use of alcohol. Never drink and drive. There’s also been a dramatic increase in the number of accidents caused by distracted driving. Don’t try to send a text message while you’re behind the wheel. Learn how to give your smartphone verbal commands, so that you don’t have to take your eyes off the roads.
