Minimizing Your Risk of Injury as the Weather Cools
For most of us, fall is a welcome relief from the relentless heat of summer in Texas. As the weather cools down, though, we can be at risk of different types of injuries. Here are some of the most common fall injuries and tips for staying injury-free.
Motor Vehicle Accidents
Though the overall volume of traffic tends to drop in the fall, it can be more concentrated, particularly during the early morning and late afternoon hours, when many young drivers are heading to or coming home from school. Changing weather patterns can also cause foggy conditions in the morning. Give yourself more time if you’re driving during peak hours and be willing to drive with your headlights on.
Active Lifestyle Injuries
As the weather cools, many of us look forward to getting back outside. We may resume a biking or jogging regimen or simply enjoy a daily walk. It’s important to ease your way back into a pattern of regular physical activity, so that you avoid strains, sprains and other similar injuries.
Slips and Falls
The rainy season can lead to wet and slippery sidewalks, stairs, steps, driveways and other thoroughfares. Make certain your shoes have good tread and be willing to take more time to get to your destination.
